At the end of this week, 26th April, Lyn and her boyfriend Alex fly out from England on an expedition to follow in the footsteps of her Great Grandfather who travelled to Australia drawn by the prospect of finding work and gold there 90 years ago.
Lyn and Alexs' Itinerary plans, possibly (probably?) subject to change!
April 26th 1997 - Leave from London Heathrow for Bangkok, Thailand.
During our stay in the Far East we intend to see the temples and statues which this city is famous for. Bargain shopping in the markets is not to be missed. The food is supposed to be fabulous so we are willing to give that a try!!
April 30th 1997 - Leave Bangkok for Cairns, Australia.
This is a brilliant starting point for our Australian tour. Although we will venture north in order to visit Cape Tribulation National Park this is where we will begin the bus ride which will take us down the coast towards Sydney.
We have a six-month pass so there will be plenty of time to hop off and explore. Diving on The Great Barrier Reef, white-water rafting in Tully, and sailing around the islands just off the coast are a few of the activities which we intend to pursue.
Meanwhile our funds will be dwindling so we will pick fruit, pull pints, or do just about anything in order to stay there.
September sometime!!
Sooner or later we will hit Sydney. We would like to stay for a while and soak up some culture Southern-Style.
The Opera House and Doyle's Fish Restaurant cannot be missed.
We will probably work for a while and depending on our financial situation will travel further towards Adelaide or possibly Alice Springs- apparently there is a big lump of rock nearby which is worth seeing!
February 15th 1998 - Leave Sydney for Auckland, New Zealand.
A flying visit to explore North Island. Bungee Jumping will not be on the cards even if it is the most famous place to do it.
March 1st, 1998 - Leave Auckland for L.A. in The USA
We have already hired a car for three days so that we can cruise up and down the coastal road. We hope to go South to see the house where I lived briefly with Mum and Dad in Corona del Mar and then North to San Francisco.
We will hopefully stay with my cousins who will direct us to the best tourist attractions in town. It's a long way but I would love to go and peer into the Grand Canyon.
March 22nd, 1998 - Leave L.A. for London, Heathrow.
The jet-setters return with lots of funny stories. By then we will be suitably travelled to settle down and work nine to five like all adults do.
Updates on the travellers progress will be posted from time to time, so watch this space.
Meanwhile if you live, or are in the places on the route of the itinerary, watch out there may be a Luxton about!
Update 1 - They're Off (28 April 1997)
